Balmoral Castle has been the Scottish home of the Royal Family since it was purchased for Queen Victoria by Prince Albert in 1852, having been first leased in 1848.

Please note that Balmoral is currently closed to the Public.
During this time there is no general access to the areas closest to the Castle and the Cairns Walk is also unavailable.
However, for those travelling on foot from Ballater to Braemar on the South side of the river there is an alternative route available.
